Finally I stood there, right in front of Umbreon, ready to beat the crap out of him.

After all he has done.... After what he did to me..... What he did to her. Now he'll

pay.

"Your effort goes in vain, Ninetales. You know very well you can't survive." Said

Umbreon.

"It doesn't matter whether I survive or not. You'll pay what you've done to her." Said

I.

"And then what? You'll die and then she's still mine! You're only wa-"

I attacked Umbreon before he even could finish his sentence. That will not happen.

She's not Umbreon's. She's no one's.
But he was fast. Even though it was unexpected, he avoids my attack and launched a

Shadow Ball at me. I got hit full in my body, but I endured it and fired a Flamethrower

at him. And again, he avoids it. Quickly he moved up close and hit me with an Iron

Tail. I knocked against the wall and felt a huge pain going through my body.
I quickly went on my feet and opened my eyes, but it was too late. I only saw the light

of Umbreon's Hyper Beam.

And then everything was black, and my life flashed in front of my eyes.....

It was a sunny day, like every summer. I was lurking in the grass, waiting for the

opportunity to catch the Rattata. I quickly jumped to the Rattata, who paralyzed from

shock, and caught him without a problem. An another nice meal for the day.
But of course, a simple Rattata isn't enough for a Ninetales like me. So I searched for

an another prey.

After a while I saw a Raticate. Just perfect, that surely will fill my belly for the

day. So I hid myself in the grass again.
But just at the moment I wanted to strike, someone else caught the Raticate. It seems

it was an Espeon. You don't see an Eeveelution often, let alone an Espeon.
Suddenly she turned her head and looked at me, with the Raticate in her mouth. How did

It was raining a few days later, which I really really hate. It's just hurting me.

That's actually very obvious and expected, since I'm a fire type, who is just weak

against water.
Stupid enough I didn't searched for a place to hide, so I had to lay in a grove. It

doesn't really help, I still get somewhat wet, but it's still better than nothing.

Suddenly I see a Pokemon approaching. Damn. I can't fight in this rain, that's suicide!

Now if I didn't choose a grove close to a tree I could've used Dig and went quickly

somewhere else through the underground.....
I prepared for the approaching Pokemon, hoping it was a weak grass-type or something.

But as soon as the Pokemon was close, I saw who it was. It was the same Espeon from a

few days ago. What is she doing here? How did she find me?

"Quick, come over to my place." Said Espeon.

"And then what? Are you going to attack me?" Said I, shivering in the cold.

"Do you prefer to get wet and hurt? If I would attack you, you would get hurt either

way. But there's no reason to attack you, so why would I?"

"Why not? A nice big chunk of meat for a few days, that sure would be nice....."

"Ugh, I'm not that barbaric. I'm only hunting to survive. There are plenty of Rattata's

and small bird Pokemon around, so it would be a waste to kill you"

She's right, but still, can I really trust her? Maybe she's just luring me somewhere

and WILL kill me? Well, there's only one way to find out. Like she said, I will get

hurt either way....

"But.... How the hell do we get to your place without getting wet?"

"Easy." Said Espeon with a grin.

Espeon used Protect above us, preventing the rain from falling upon us. I looked

fascinated at the Protect shield. I never thought about using Protect like that.

"Common, I can't use this for eternity!" Said Espeon, making me remember the situation

I'm in right now.

Without hesitation I stood up and ran behind Espeon. I don't know where we are going,

but any dry place would be nice..... After I got rid of that Espeon.

Espeon's place was well hidden. It was under a tree, with the entrance blocked by a

grove.
Espeon went in the tree, deactivating the Protect shield, making the rain suddenly fall

on me. Out of reflection I jumped in the tree, almost bumping into Espeon.

It was a nice place. It wasn't big, but big enough for several Pokemon to stay here.

"You can sleep on the straw over there" Said Espeon.

I walked to the pile of straw and laid down on it. Espeon went to an another pile of

straw on the other side of the room.

Espeon slept pretty quick, but I didn't. I stayed awake and waited for the right

moment. The moment to kill her and have this place for a while.....

I woke up from screeching Fearow outside. I stretched and looked around, ready for a

new day. But I didn't recognized this place..... Oh wait, that's right..... Espeon

invited me here to stay for the night...... Oh shit! Espeon!
I looked around to search for Espeon, but I didn't saw her anywhere. I must have fallen

asleep.... But how? I never would fall asleep in front of my prey. And surely not if

they can attack me. Maybe she used Hypnosis on me....

Suddenly Espeon appeared in the entrance with two dead Rattata in her mouth.

"Here, eat this." She said as she threw a Rattata to me.

I just looked at the Rattata. Is it safe to eat it? Did she spoiled it? Or is she

really helping?

"What did you do to me yesterday?" I asked.

"Excuse me?" She answered.

"I never fall asleep before getting my prey. I would've killed you, but somehow I

didn't."

"I did nothing. You were wet from the rain yesterday, remember? It wouldn't surprise me

if you passed out from exhaustion. After all, you're a fire type."

She was right. Again. But still, I wouldn't pass out that easy from a bit rain......

But I also didn't eat much that last few days.....

"Okay, but how did you knew where I was? I was pretty well hidden the first time. And

yet it seemed you know I was laying there.... And why were you outside yesterday

anyway?"

She has a trick to find me, I'm sure of it. There was no way she could've known where I

was. Or was I that obvious? Did I started to get over convinced and thus didn't hid

well anymore?

"I heard you thinking." She said while ripping of the head of the Rattata.

"What, was I thinking out loud?"

"No. You weren't thinking out loud. But you were thinking. How you would cover yourself

from the rain. How you would catch that Raticate. And how you were surprised at me

catching the Raticate before you." She answered chuckling.

Now I was sure she did something. There was no way she could know this. That was just

impossible.

"Okay, what did you do to me? Did you used Hypnosis and then Dream Eater or what?"

"What? Of course not, why would I do that?"

"Then how the fuck do you know this of me? How could you ever possibly find me?"

"I told you, I heard you thinking."

"Bullshit, don't tell me you can use telepathy, because that's impossible. Even an

Alakazam can't do that."

"But I can."

"Yeah right, then what am I thinking now?"

"About how you're going to kill me with a Fire Fang before I have finished my

sentence." She said calmly while eating from the Rattata.

I almost had to throw myself back to prevent from lunging on Espeon. I just stood

there, watching her eating. I just couldn't believe it. She did read my mind. She knew

what I was going to do. She knew exactly what I was thinking.

"So..... You really can read others mind. But can you also talk to people through their

mind?"

"No. I can only read them. Now just eat your food."

"Oh, yeah, right."

I wasn't thinking anymore about how the Rattata could be spoiled. I was kinda shocked

about how she can read others mind. This isn't an ordinary Espeon. No psychic Pokemon

can read others mind. Now I think of it, her ears are a tad different.... It seems that

there are plumes on the top of her ears. Kinda funny.

I left Espeon and her place after I ate the Rattata. I decided not to kill her. Not

because she has been nice to me. Just.... Because she's different. Different than the

other Pokemon I know.

Okay, this is longer than I expected, but at least it's a chapter. It took a long time

(nah not really, just being lazy), but here you go guys!

It has been several weeks after I met Espeon. I already had forgotten there and just

went on with the same, repetitive days.

So I was waiting in the grass, watching the Rattata to be caught, as always. But this

time it was different. This time things changed.
I jumped to the Rattata, but got attacked without a warning. It was a trap. I was wet

and started to feel weak.
As I turned around I saw a Floatzel, ready to launch a Hydro Pump. Quickly I evade the

attack and ran. I was no match against a water Pokemon, I have no choice but to run.

But it was fast. Before I knew it it was close up to me and took me down with Take

Down. I seems I have no other option against this quick Pokemon....

So I quickly stood up and faced the Floatzel. I quickly dashed to him when he was about

to attack and performed a Bite. But he countered it with a Focus Punch, following by

Fury Swipes. I tried to stand up, but it rained me down with Brine.
I didn't know what to do..... I can't be just defeated by a Floatzel....

Suddenly there was a flash of a Psybeam and I could escape from the Floatzel's attacks.

And right there I saw, with a big surprise, Espeon standing in front of me.
Suddenly she vanished from the Quick Attack and tackled the Floatzel. Before it could

react and defend itself, Espeon attacked with an Iron Tail.
Surprised by the sudden helper, the Floatzel left us. I guess it knew it didn't had a

change against two.....

"Are you alright?" Espeon asked.

"Yeah.... I'm fine...." I said as I weakly stood up. "But how did you find me?"

"I heard you thinking as usual" Espeon said with a smirk.

I remember how she told me about how she could hear others thinking. But still, we're a

long distance from her place, I don't think she could've heard me this far....

"Maybe..... But there's no way you could've heard me from your place. You couldn't even

have come here this quick here. We're miles from your place!
You..... Were you following me or what?"

"....I was worried if you would do fine. You have a great weakness against ground and

water, two common and important elements...."

"Bullshit. I'm doing fine."

"That attack of that Floatzel tells me otherwise."

"I could've handled it alone."

"Oh yes you sure could." She said with a smile on her face.

"Geh. But still, even if you were worried, why did you follow me for weeks?"

"I..... I don't know."

Her face suddenly looked worried.

"I think it's just that I can't believe that you'll do fine that easy. If you get

attacked by a strong ground or water Pokemon, or maybe even a Swampert in the worst

case..... You surely wouldn't have survived it."

"Heh, are you that worried about me? But why? Why would you be so worried about a

random fire Pokemon? I could've attacked you right now...."

"You know you won't. Don't you remember, how I predicted your attack at my place?"

"Oh yeah, that's right....."

I remember how she predicted my attack at her in the smallest detail. It was kind of

scary how she could know it with only reading my mind.... I wonder if she could even

know what kind of Pokemon I am.... Or maybe if she can see the future...

"But still, why are you worried about me, a random fire Pokemon who is killing anything

to survive?"

"I don't know. I guess there's something.... Different about you...."

Different? She doesn't know why? Does that mean she can't read who I am? Or is she just

lying? Could this whole scene be a trap?

"No, I'm not lying, and this is not a trap!" She said kinda angried. "Is this the

thanks I get? Shall I let you die next time?"

"No no, I don't mean it like that! Sorry for that..... I didn't mean to doubt you...."


There was a silence between us for a few minutes. I didn't knew what to say. I wanted

to go, but for some odd reason I didn't want to be rude to her either.... I guess I

just have to say it as nice as possible....

"So.... Do you have any place to stay? Or are you going to go back to your place?"

"I'm not planning at going back."

"Okay, then I- Wait what?"

"I told you, I'm kind of worried if your doing fine. I'm not planning at going back."

I couldn't understand. Why didn't she want to leave? What did she saw in me what even I

didn't saw? Why does she want me to be fine that badly? I guess there's no other choice

then....

"....Fine, if you want it that badly, you can go with me. But be warned, if you try

anything...."

"I won't do anything. Else I would've let you die and attacked the Floatzel later,

wouldn't I?"

"Yeah, that's true...."

"Great! Don't worry, I won't be a burden!"


So we walked for a while without saying anything. It was weird to have a companion with

me. I always have been alone for my whole life. No one had cared this much for me.....

".....I forgot to say thanks. So.... Thanks for saving me back there." I said a little

ashamed.

"It's ok, it was nothing!" She said with a smile.

I don't know why, but her smile gave me a warm feeling in me. I guess it's nice to have

her on my side.....

Geez, it has been 2 months already? Damn lazy me. >_>

Chapter 5|

It has been a few months since Espeon joined me. It was weird to have someone travel

with me. But it seems she's useful after all. Even though she's not super effective

against ground and water Pokemon, she still covers my weakness against them.
She's also very nice to me. She's always in a happy mood, even in though battles.

Speaking of which, she has a funny way of fighting her opponents. She quickly takes

them down, yet she does it in some smooth, beautiful way.....

I noticed fall was about to end. Not because of the leave-less trees, but because more

and more Pokemon are hiding. It gets harder and harder to catch any Pokemon..... I

guess the though season has started. I wonder how Espeon survives through the winter?

"There's a Rattata under the ground here...." she said, and started digging in the

ground.

Of course, she probably find the other Pokemon by reading their mind. Well, that only

makes things easier..... It looks like it really wasn't too bad to let her go with me.

But I don't think she'll be able to survive the winter without looking for a shelter

though....

Suddenly I saw a Pidgey. I told Espeon to stay there and ran after the Pokemon. She

still had to get that Rattata under the ground after all....

I don't know how, but it looks like the Pidgey suddenly flew away, like it knew I want

to catch it. I just ran after it, in the hope I could catch it anyway.
Suddenly I bumped into another Pokemon. It was an Absol. And it didn't look friendly,

so I immediately stood in my fighting stance.

"I don't intend to fight you, so calm down, okay? I'm just here to warn you." Absol

said.

"Warn me for what? The harsh winter? I'll survive it fine, just like every winter." I

said.

"It's not the winter, that's not a big deal. It's that Espeon with you. You should

ditch her while it can."

"For what reason? She hasn't done anything wrong."

"Indeed, and she won't. But there's a great danger after her, and you better can't be

involved with it."

"Ah common, what danger could there possible stop me? Sure, it's odd how she can read

others minds, but how could that be dangerous?"

"It's not just that. It's-"

The Absol was suddenly interrupted by Espeon's shouts, who seems to be looking for me.

"Remember, if you don't ditch her, then you could as well throw your life away...."

Absol said while running through the trees.

He was gone. Whatever, probably someone who tries to scare me.

"Hey, what took you so long, did you catch that Pidgey?" Espeon said with the Rattata

still in her mouth.

"Oh, eh, it got away....." I said.

"Well, be glad I found another Rattata. Here, takes this one. I already had one." She

said while laying the Rattata before me.

*PRESENT TIME*

He was right. That damned Absol was right. Maybe I should have ditched her. Maybe then

this all wouldn't have happened.

It got darker and colder.... Is this the end? Did that Hyper Beam of Umbreon finish me?

But.... I can't give up now.... I can't let Umbreon take her. But.... What can I do?

I'm stuck in this cold darkness and can't even move.....

Suddenly I felt a pleasant warmth flowing through me. Everything got brighter, like I

was watching a sunrise.....

"Don't give up, remember our promise...." a familiar voice said.

Suddenly I could see everything again. I felt refreshed and reborn.
There stood Espeon. I guess she used Morning Sun on me....

"What are you doing? Why are you helping the enemy?!" Umbreon said.

"The only enemy are you, Umbreon. I'm not your girl, give it up already!" Espeon said.

"Enough, I won't let him take you!"

Before I realized what was happening, Umbreon used Take Down on Espeon and knocked her

down. He grabbed Espeon and ran away.

"Espeon, no!" I shouted, and ran after them.

This can't be happening. My back-leg was fucking hurting, it looks like it's broken or

something. But I can't let this happen. I can't break our promise......


*PAST TIME*

It was a very cold winter. We lay against each other to keep us warm in a hole we dug

under a tree. I hope this does help, it has never been this cold in my life before....

She does feel warm though.... it was nice to have her lying against me....

"What was that?" Espeon asked.

"Oh, uh, nothing...." I answered.

"Yeah sure. You better don't get any weird ideas....."

Minutes of silent awkwardness passed by.

".....We're going to survive this winter, right?" Espeon finally asked.
"I mean, it's so cold.... I normally stay most of my time in my home, where it's always

warm...."

"We'll be fine.... As long as we find enough food, nothing will happen." I said.

"Well, maybe you will.... But I've never been this long in the cold. How will I

possibly survive this winter?"

"Well.... If it's really that cold for you, then I'll create a big fire by burning this

place up. That surely will make you warm."

Suddenly Espeon started giggling. I don't know why, but somehow I'm happy to see her

like this.

"Thank you, Ninetales..." She said, while moving closer against me.

"For what?" I said, a bit embarrassed that she moved close to me.

"For the reassurance. At least I know that I can rely on you."

It was weird to hear that from her. I never knew that someone could have that much

faith in me.... Though I have to admit, I do kinda like her, and I would feel bad to

see her harmed.... She always has been with me in the past half year, always in a happy

mood, and we always had fun and helped each other out....

"Don't worry, whatever happens, I won't let you be harmed. Even if I have to face the

devil." I said.

"You will? You're really serious about that?" she said.

"Yes, I am. I promise." I said while moving closer to her.
